Following their successful debut in Brisbane in 2012, vocal duo Essence is set to perform at the Ballina Art Gallery on Sunday 3 March 2013.
Acclaimed soprano Katie Rutledge says Essence will perform a “gorgeous mix of classical, jazz and celtic songs, all exquisitely arranged for two soprano voices and a chamber band.”
“This concert will nourish the soul and restore the senses” Rutledge said.
“We describe the music as ‘soulful’, ‘inspiring’ and ‘sophisticated’, a perfect way to relax for an hour or two on a Sunday afternoon”, she said.
“We are thrilled to perform in the Ballina Art Gallery as it provides the perfect ambience for this intimate and relaxing style of concert, and provides great access for Northern Rivers music- lovers” said the Ballina resident .
Performing their second concert program The Last Rose of Summer, songs will include modern arrangements of “Song to the Moon”, “Tis the Last Rose of Summer”, “Will Ye Go Lassie Go” and many other beautiful tunes.
Katie Rutledge sings with renowned lyric soprano Beth McBride, and they are supported for this concert by pedigree musicians Leo McFadden (classical guitar) and Dave Spicer (piano).
“Beth and I have been colleagues at Opera Queensland for the past ten years and are currently working together in the chamber ensemble for Bach’s St Matthews Passion” Katie said.
“Essence originated from our shared dream of performing original arrangements of beautiful music to relax the mind, open the heart, and restore the soul”, she said.
For one-afternoon-only Essence will perform in the intimate 80-seat display room at the Ballina Art Gallery on Sunday 3 May 2013, including catering by the Ballina Art Gallery Café.
